Another form of time lapse is travel-lapse. I have tried a couple of these and it’s a really fun idea for documenting a journey or travel to a place. This one is of our family taking a trip from suburban Auckland to the beach.

Over the last year and a half I have learnt a lot about food photography and how to make it work in my living room or kitchen while stumbling over toys and fighting off the kids from taking a sample before I’ve managed to capture it. Continue reading
This year I decided I wanted to venture out and try some different sorts of photography and something that really captured my attention was the idea of forms of motion photography. I haven’t discovered yet all the things that might fully entail but I have already started working on some ideas for different projects including:
So I hope this year to share with you at least one of my experiments each month.
The first project I decided on was a time-lapse – that is capturing hundreds of photos over an extended period of time and compiling them together into a movie clip. After looking into making one I was surprised how easy (relatively speaking) it was to start out. I was also pleasantly surprised that the only additional thing I needed other than a camera and a tripod was a free app on my mobile called TriggerTrap and a cable. After going through a couple of candles and getting the timing right I managed to get something that worked.
Since I got my first camera I have had a variety of bags. The backpack, satchel, shoulder bag and the fashion camera bag have all been through my bag “wardrobe” over the years. After trying different ones I found what I liked and disliked and worked out some of the aspects I wanted in a camera bag. Continue reading
Over the Christmas break I saw a little point and shoot camera on sale 1/2 price and decided to upgrade and pass my old point and shoot that I rarely used on to my Mum. As it was summer holidays and my little girls 3rd birthday we decided to take her on her first trip to the zoo. With three kids and the grandparents in tow we explored the Auckland Zoo armed only with my new point and shoot and ALOT of snacks to keep the kids going for the day. Despite spending the most part of the day chasing after three kids and getting pulled in different directions I did manage to take a few photos and was quite happy with the result. I am looking forward to going another time on a solo mission armed with more camera gear a less food.
Since I have finished this photo a week round up I thought I would do a post with a gallery of all the images so you don’t have to click through them all one by one to see what I captured this year. Looking forward to sharing my exciting new project next week. Continue reading
There is always big discussions among photographers about their gear – what’s best, what they choose and why. As some one who loves photography, but doesn’t have the budget of a full time photographer my choice of gear reflects my desire to get the best quality I can with out breaking the bank. I have carefully researched all my options each time I have bought equipment and made a decision on what I think would best suit my needs. So what’s in my bag? Continue reading
